Research Activities at Computer Science
What is new?
Computer Science Faculty
- Dr. Uta Ziegler is a co-Pi of an NSF grant awarded
on August 20th, 2007 with the title Collaborative Research: Exploring the Space
of Large Knots and Links.
- Dr. Uta Ziegler is a co-Pi of a grant through Army
Research Lab (ARL) with the title Cyberdefense.
- Dr. Ziegler and several collaborators published
a paper in the Journal of Physics which was selected for inclusion in the IOP Select
(only 10% of the accepted papers are selected).
- Dr. Zhonghang Xia was awarded a Kentucky NSF-EPSCoR
grant in May 2006 with the title "An agent framework for information retrieval and
recommendation".
- In spring 2006, Rong Yang taught an on-line class
taken by high-school students at different high-schools. Students received college
credit as well as high school credit.Teaching such a "dual-enrollment" class on-line
was a first for WKU.
- Dr. Gary is a co-PI on a Kentucky Space Grant Consortium
Grant which investigates the dark matter component of the universe.
- Dr. Xing received a Kentucky NSF EPSCoR Research
Enhancement Grant titled "XML and Key Support using RDBMS" for the time from June
2005 to May 2006.
Computer Science Students:
-
Aditya Tadakaluru
A graduate student in Computer Science, presented a paper related to his thesis
at the International Conference on Computational Intelligent Modeling in Control
and Automation, held in Vienna, Austria, Nov. 28-30, 2005
- Onur Ascigil
A graduate student, presented work
related to his thesis at the 36th Annual Research Conference organized by WKU.
- Thao A Nguyen
An under graduate student in Computer
Science, was selected for the 2006 SIPHER Summer Research Program at Vanderbilt.
AI Lab
The Artificial Intelligence(AI) Laboratory is designed to be the center where research
and experimentation in the various areas of AI is performed. Currently there are
four Evolution brand ER1 robots there where students explore the robot's capabilities
in the areas of voice recognition, sensor control, and obstacle avoidance . It is
expected that other hardware/software used in other subfields of AI will be housed
here in the near future.
