Computer Science Faculty
  • Dr. Uta Ziegler is a co-Pi of an NSF grant awarded on August 20th, 2007 with the title Collaborative Research: Exploring the Space of Large Knots and Links.
  • Dr. Uta Ziegler is a co-Pi of a grant through Army Research Lab (ARL) with the title Cyberdefense.
  • Dr. Ziegler and several collaborators published a paper in the Journal of Physics which was selected for inclusion in the IOP Select (only 10% of the accepted papers are selected).

  • Di Wu and V.Lakshmi Narasimhan ,Kentucky Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network (KBRIN) Research Grant, Novel Method for Protein Structural Refinement using Coarse-Grained Models over a High Performance Computing Environment, US$25,000, 2007.
  • V.Lakshmi Narasimhan , Di Wu and R Mahmood , NSF KY EPSCoR, Intensive Workshop on High Performance Computing for Informatics and Bioscience, US$10,000, 2007.
  • Dr. Narasimhan of Computer Science Department and Dr. Wu of Mathematics Department have been jointly awarded a Proposal Incentive Grant (PIF) of $22,600 for 2007 on the topic of: Meta-Analysis of Clinical Cardiovascular Data Towards Evidential Reasoning for Cardiovascular Life Cycle Management.

  • Dr. Zhonghang Xia was awarded a Kentucky NSF-EPSCoR grant in May 2006 with the title "An agent framework for information retrieval and recommendation".

  • In spring 2006, Rong Yang taught an on-line class taken by high-school students at different high-schools. Students received college credit as well as high school credit.Teaching such a "dual-enrollment" class on-line was a first for WKU.

  • Dr. Gary is a co-PI on a Kentucky Space Grant Consortium Grant which investigates the dark matter component of the universe.

  • Dr. Mostafa received a Homeland Security grant titled "Enhancement Mitigation of Intrusion Threats in Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition Systems in Chemical Plants and Other Critical Infrastructure."

  • Dr. Xing received a Kentucky NSF EPSCoR Research Enhancement Grant titled "XML and Key Support using RDBMS" for the time from June 2005 to May 2006.

Computer Science Students:
  • Aditya Tadakaluru
    A graduate student in Computer Science, presented a paper related to his thesis at the International Conference on Computational Intelligent Modeling in Control and Automation, held in Vienna, Austria, Nov. 28-30, 2005
  • Onur Ascigil
    A graduate student, presented work related to his thesis at the 36th Annual Research Conference organized by WKU.
  • Thao A Nguyen
    An under graduate student in Computer Science, was selected for the 2006 SIPHER Summer Research Program at Vanderbilt.
